Deacons' Closet

Deacons' Closet

Current Needs

Spring is in the air, but our Deacons' Closet customers are still cold at night.  As you do your spring cleaning, please keep these top five needs in mind: backpacks (both school/day packs and larger), sleeping bags, men's boxers (all sizes, especially small), men's white socks, women's leggings/sweat pants.

Please leave your bagged donation inside the west entrance near the custodian's office.  Thank you!

About Us

Deacons Closet PatThe Deacons’ Closet offers clothing, toiletries, small housewares, books and other miscellaneous items at no cost to individuals with special or recurring needs. The clothing distributed is intended for all ages, styles, and sizes.

We are located in the First Pres Annex on the northeast corner of 16th and Walnut.

The Closet is open to the public from 9:30-10:30am on Thursday mornings.

The First Pres congregation and individuals with special or immediate needs may receive personal shopping attention between 8:30-9:30am on Thursday mornings, or by making special arrangements through the Church office.

The Closet closes only on national holidays, or when the Boulder Valley School District is closed due to inclement weather.

Deacons Closet GuestsThe Deacons' Closet relies heavily on donations from First Pres members and the community. Gently used, clean clothing, in average to good condition is needed. Men’s jeans, backpacks and winter clothing are usually in particular demand.

Donations may be left in the main Church building in the hall outside of the janitors' closet just inside the west doors off of 15th Street

We may place high quality clothing with a local consignment shop. The proceeds are used to purchase new undergarments and toiletries that are needed by our clients who are homeless. Clothing not taken by our clients or sold at a consignment shop is passed on to the Disabled American Veterans to be sold or recycled by them.

Volunteer Opportunities

Deacons Closet

New volunteers are always welcomed into this very relaxed, collegial environment. Bilingual volunteers are especially helpful to our Spanish speaking clients.

The Deacons work on Mondays and Thursdays, but you may work as long as your schedule permits:

  • Donations are sorted each Monday morning from 7am until approximately 8:30 a.m., depending on the quantity we receive.
  • We begin sorting and setting up for the Thursday distribution at 7am. Clean-up is normally finished by 11am.
