Discover Your Role in God’s “Stranger Love”
You shall also love the stranger,
for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.
– Deuteronomy 10:19 (NRSV)
In a series of sermons last fall, we heard about a new emphasis for our church: Stranger Love. As God has extended welcome and love to us, so we are called, individually and collectively, to be agents of God’s blessing to the strangers around us. These “strangers” might be our neighbors or coworkers, they might be marginalized people in Boulder or around the world, or they might be people in our own church who feel out of place.
That sounds intimidating. There are so many strangers, with so many needs – how can we know where to begin? That’s where the Discovery Class comes in. This time-tested, Scripture-based material will help you learn how God has uniquely made you – your passions, your spiritual gifts, your personal style, and how you are a vital part of the larger Body of Christ. Through teaching and discussion, small group activities, and a personalized coaching session, you will get a better idea of what kinds of service are a good fit for how God has designed you. This will help you focus your efforts on the expressions of “stranger love” (and other ministry) that are likely to be fruitful and fulfilling.
If you want to learn more about your God-given role in loving the stranger, or more generally how God has uniquely equipped you and called you to loving service both inside and outside the church walls, plan to take a Discovery Class.
